Will the Green Laser Pointer Replace the Red Laser Pointer?
Sony announced that it has ceased production of the cassette tape Walkman in Japan on Monday 25th October. It means the death of the Walkman after thirty-one years history. It shows that the Walkman was finally replaced by the digital Mp3 players and iPods. The Walkman was launched in July 1979. From then on, transistor radios were portable. The music fans found a good way to bring their music anywhere at anytime. The news to quit the cassette tape may not be good to the fans of Walkman. It records a lot of sweet memory of their life. Through this issue, someone would question that if the green laser pointer would replace the red green laser one day.
Nowadays more and more people prefer to choose laser pointer as their toys or tools. The laser pointer is quite useful in astronomy area to point the stars. It is also quite helpful when teaching. Or you may use it to make your presentation more vivid. There are three main kinds of laser pointers. The most common one is red laser pointer. And the more powerful one is green laser pointer. There is another laser pointer is blue. And some body prefers to choose the red green laser, while the others may like the green laser or blue laser. First of all, the color of the two kind of laser pointer is totally different. Some one may choose the red laser pointer only because that it is red. On the contrary, some one may choose the green one since he or she likes green. In fact, the green laser pointer is more powerful than the red one. Comparison with 200mW red laser to 200mW green laser, the former can not light the match, but the latter can do that. And the person’s eyes are more sensitive to the green than the red. Through the green laser pointer, you may see the line of the light. However, you may see only a point through the red laser pointer. The human eye sees colors in the range of about 400nm (the violet end) to 700nm (the read end). Green is about in the middle, around 560nm so it’s usually easier to see, particularly if the red is close to the limit of detection, i.e., before going into the infrared region above 700nm.
