In Bible Vs Quran: the father is allowed to sell his daughter as a slave?
In Bible Vs Quran: the father is allowed to sell his daughter as a slave?
In the Bible: Yes!
In the Quran: No.
What if a man sells his daughter as a slave?
The interesting law inspired by God in the Bible!
In the Bible, Jehovah, the Lord God, the Almighty Creator, put this interesting Law.
If a man sells his daughter as a slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.
This out of the ordinary law allows the father to sell his daughter.
On the other hand, Allah, the Almighty Creator, did not put such an exciting Law.
Now, which book dishonors the female gender, the Bible or the Quran?
However, this article is not aimed to discuss this important issue that needs a book.
The present article is aimed to study the verse of Exodus 21:7 in the original Hebrew Scriptures Vs many different English Versions of the Bible; this allows the smart reader to know how some of the eminent Biblical scholars corrupt the Word of God.
The original Hebrew verse of Exodus 21:7 is precisely translated to:
If a man sells his daughter as a slave, she is not to go free as the male slaves do.
The Hebrew verse contains two important keywords; they are:
- לְאָמָ֑ה , pronounced as “amah” = a female slave (Hebrew Strong’s Numbers 519).
- הָעֲבָדִֽים, pronounced as “ebed” = a male slave (Hebrew Strong’s Numbers 5650).
Study of this verse in 20 different versions of the Bible reveals the following findings:
- 1. Some Biblical Versions (five) translate the verse correctly.
- 2. Some Biblical Versions (five) change the verse by adding words that are not present in the original Hebrew one.
- 3. Some Biblical Versions (five) translate “amah” (a female slave) to a servant.
- 4. Some Biblical Versions (three) translate “amah” (a female slave) to a handmaid.
- 5. Some Biblical Versions (three) contain a Grammar mistake.
The details of the Study of the Verse:
- 1. The Hebrew verse is correctly translated in the following English Biblical versions:
GOD’S WORD Translation
Whenever a man sells his daughter into slavery, she will not go free the way male slaves do.
Holman Christian Standard Bible

New American Standard Bible

New King James Version
And if a man sells his daughter to be a female slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do.
- 2. The Biblical Versions that change the verse by adding words that are not present in the original Hebrew verse (the underlined words are not present in the Hebrew verse).
Amplified Bible
If a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant or bondwoman, she shall not go out [in six years] as menservants do.
New Living Translation

The Message
When a man sells his daughter to be a handmaid, she doesn’t go free after six years like the men.
- 3. Some Biblical Versions translate “amah” (a female slave) to a servant.

Darby Translation
And if a man shall sell his daughter as a handmaid, she shall not go out as the bondmen go out.
The Message
When a man sells his daughter to be a handmaid, she doesn’t go free after six years like the men.
- 5. Some Biblical Versions contain a Grammar mistake (if a man sell not sells)
King James Version
And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
21st Century King James Version
And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

===============
On the other hand, this interesting Biblical law of selling the daughter as a slave is not mentioned therein in the entire Quran.
===============
Now, we have two big issues or two important claims:
1) The Biblical scholars claim that the Quran is quoted from the Bible.
2) The Quran claims that the Bible is corrupted.
